‘Jays chip their way into the second half of season

The Elmhurst College men’s golf team begins the spring portion of their season after finishing 6th of 19 teams in the Millikin University Big Blue Fall Classic on Oct. 2-3 to close the Fall season.

Following a “disappointing” sixth place finish at the Milikin University Big Blue Fall Classic to finish the fall portion of their season, the ‘Jays are optimistic about their chances this spring.

“Hopefully we’ll win a few tournaments and come out strong,” said junior golfer Tyler Qahhaar in a phone interview. “We’re a young team and we just need to play more consistently.”

Quahharr emphasized the fact that, despite having a fair amount of talent, there is always a need to improve.

“We will be implementing the same practice that we did through the offseason,” said Qahharr. “Hopefully we’ll be a bit better. There’s definitely room for improvement.”

Several key golfers, said Qahharr, should be able to uphold their success from the fall, such as freshman  Josh Gorzney, who tied for eighth at The Big Blue Fall Classic, and freshman Matt Cross, who finished three strokes behind him.

“Expect [Gorzney] to continue to play well. He’ll come out strong,” said Qahharr. “Matt Cross should come through as well.”

Qahharr is extremely confident in the team’s abilities and believes that despite their inexperience, they will continue to mature and be successful as a team.

“We were a very young team last year, and we still are young,” said Qahharr. “But we’ll come in a little bit hotter than last year.”

The ‘Jays will begin their season on March 12-13, when they travel to the Millikin University Invitational.
